Yesterday was my third Sunday preaching as Pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Wellsville, Missouri. For those of you who don’t know where that is, think rural. Look it up on Google maps. Some of you are glad that I am here pastoring. The others who know me from before coming here will, well, probably think I’m crazy and don’t know what I am getting myself into. Let me tell you this: I love it here. God has a plan for me and I strongly believe that this is it. Roni and the kids are settling in to the much more peaceful lifestyle of being out in the country!
There are many things that I could go on about being out here, both positive and negative, however there is only one thing that I am going to put words on a page for: peace. I have not felt such a peace in my life in a very long time. I don’t necessarily mean a peace from God (though it is there!), I mean just peace in my home. Peace in my family. Peace in my wife. Peace in my children. This peace is a blessing that I could not have asked for or received in any other way except as a blessing from God.
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3, ESV)
My family is here to trust in, worship, and serve the Living God, Creator and King of the universe. Everywhere we have been, he has always been so faithful and so kind and so good to us, bringing us peace. Giving us opportunities to serve and be used to affect such great change in people’s lives. Now that He has brought me to pastor Hopewell Baptist Church, I can continue being used by God as an under-shepherd of His sheep. My prayer is that much be made known of Jesus; that His Word is heard week in and week out.
We know that there will be times of difficulty and hardship while I am in the pastorate. But, currently, Paul’s words to the Church in Phillipi put it best:
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:4–7, ESV)
Soli Deo Gloria.
