Welcome to Monday Morning, and the Mess that it is!
So many people dislike Mondays, and I can totally understand why. However, Monday traditionally marks the beginning of a new week, of something new, and I think we ought to embrace that. Such is the reason that I think pastors should not take Monday as a day off. But, that’s not why I’m here today. I’m here to tell you about my weekend, more specifically, my Sunday. Now that I am back in the saddle of doing pulpit supply, I preached my second sermon from 2 Peter yesterday morning, finishing off chapter 1. In two weeks, I will preach through chapter 2, followed by chapter three a week after that. Today was a good day at Emmanuel Church in Sandwich. I hope and pray that the Lord is working in the hearts and minds of everyone there. Next week, I will not be there, as they have a man coming in view of a call for their pastorate. I hope and pray for him, and for the church and congregants, as well.
In the afternoon, we went to a friends’ home, kids and all, and “watched” the movie “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”, which is an amazing movie starring Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson, released in 1971. It’s a great Disney movie combining live action and hand-drawn animation, with great special effects (NOT CGI!). I loosely say we watched it because for the first two-thirds or so, the kids were just running around. After the movie was over, we took the kids for a walk/bike ride and tuckered them out (after dinner, our two youngest went to sleep really easily, praise the Lord!).
We closed off our evening making shirts for the girls that we serve while watching a movie together (my wife and I). Overall, yesterday was a good day, and I thank God for it.
So, as I look back upon it, this month might be the last month that I preach at Emmanuel Church in Sandwich, IL, or at least the last time I am their regularly (for more reasons than mentioned!). I will continue to pray for them, and miss them greatly! For God is great and greatly to be praised!
