The Weekly Nerd – Tuesday Edition – May 15th

Welcome to The Weekly Nerd! I understand that not everyone will nerd out like myself, however, I urge you to give it a try! You might have fun!

This week’s book review: Being A Christian, by Jason K. Allen

Tuesday’s Top Pick:

Why the Church Should Stop Making Fun of Video Gamers
“Church leaders could be insulting more than half of the homes in their congregation and community without even realizing it.” This is very true. I have been one of those insulted from the pulpit in years past. This is a great read regarding the demographics of those who play, and when you read them, you will be as surprised as I am, and hopefully as driven to prayer.

Here Are the Countries U.S. Citizens Can Visit Without a Visa
Think of missional application that this information could have! “As of right now, holders of a valid United States passport can travel to 177 different countries and territories around the globe without having to apply for a travel visa before departing. That’s out of about 218 possible destinations, meaning you can see over 80% of the world without having to fill out much paperwork. Plus, more and more territories and provinces are being opened up to U.S. citizens as well. For example, Hainan, an island province of China that’s often referred to as “China’s Hawaii,” recently opened itself up to U.S. citizens—no visa required.”

John Piper’s Six-Stage Process for Writing Books
This is a compelling read (or listen), and almost makes it sound like writing a book is attainable for someone like me. I left encouraged.
