Welcome to this week! I hope you’re enjoying it (at least it is not still Monday, haha!)
Tuesday’s Top Read:
Emptiness In A Modern Household
This is an incredible read regarding the modern household.
“Much is amiss in our society and our families, as the article displays without realizing it. But instead of criticizing the disagreeable, I would actually like to defend these women and some of their sense of misfortune. The loss is greater than they suppose, and it includes us all, for it includes the household.”
Who Owns Your Phone?
“Jurassic Park tried to warn us. As one of our own poets said in the 1993 dino flick, “I’ll tell you the problem with the scientific power you’re using – it didn’t require any discipline to attain it… Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn’t stop to think if they should.” ”
‘Maybe Tomorrow’
“With a simple wave of tomorrow, dirty dishes seem to vanish, hard conversations disappear, emails hide, and house projects stand by patiently. How wonderful it can feel to send today’s undesirables into the fog of tomorrow — and how ready tomorrow is to receive them! Yes, we could take care of such responsibilities today, but why when there’s always tomorrow?”
Yes, the Bible is Sufficient for Dealing with (even) Grievous Sins
This is one of the best articles I have read in a while and it deals with such hot-button topics that have dominated both the secular and evangelical worlds as of late. It is very edifying and graceful, as well as an excellent example of calling out the fallacious claims of those who say that the Bible is not sufficient.
A Late Comment on the Recent Convention
Tom Nettles is a world-class mind and he makes some wonderful observations regarding the goings-on from last month’s SBC Annual Meeting in Nashville and some of the surrounding “controversies”. This article is a must-read in my opinion.
Dusting When the Light is Dim
A great article on sin and recognizing it from Tim Challies.
“Thus, it’s as we mature in the faith that we begin to understand just how much our sinful actions spring from our sinful desires, just how much our sinful desires stem from our depraved hearts. It is as the Spirit continually illumines the Word in brighter and purer fashion that we begin to understand the true ugliness of our sin, the true horror of our depravity.”
