Welcome to this week! I’ve got a few ideas for posts floating around, including one that is about ready to post. However, wisdom dictates that I really think about this one first…
Today’s Top Read
John Piper and Coffee…
I saw John Piper’s post somewhere on social media and then I saw this article that hit the waves on Fox News’ website. I saw the same piece again on Fox News several days later. I think that someone pinched a nerve. I haven’t given much thought to it, as I have had coffee in church many times, but I am interested in all the back-and-forth on this issue that I’ve seen.
Eight Reasons to Study Baptist History
I’m not gonna lie, when I first saw the title of this article, I thought it would be by Tom Nettles and was surprised that it wasn’t. Regardless, the piece is fantastic and the author, Jeff Robinson, has handled the issue clearly and biblically. I found the article informative and convicting, and I think you may, too.
How Formal Membership Makes the Church a Family
When you read the title of this article, the first thought that might come to mind about formal church membership is “Oh, that sounds like such a western/modern church idea.” Then you read the article and realize it’s a piece by a pastor in central Asia. Sure, it’s an English-speaking church, however, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s all Westerners. Church membership really is the way to protect the family that is the church.
Family Worship for Dummies
Tom Ascol really lays down the simplicity of doing family worship. In my household, we call it “Bible Time,” where we catechize, pray, sing, and read Scripture. It sounds like a lot, but it’s really not. One of the greatest joys is when we sing the Doxology, hearing my children begin to sing first, especially when my son does it. I praise God for my kids!
The Briefing – Wednesday, October 11, 2023 – “This is an act of sheer evil.”
While this may not be the most crucial episode of Al Mohler’s “The Briefing” in recent memory, it is up there and is one that, in my estimation, should be listened to by everyone. What is happening in Israel, the Gaza Strip, and worldwide, is deplorable. However, it is happening, and we must pray for Israel and everyone involved.
Is Ministry in the Church Only the Duty of the Pastor?
The short answer is, “No.” The slightly less-short answer is, “No The ministry in the church is the duty of all Christians.” Don’t believe me? Read this article. Even better, read your Bible.
